August Board Meeting Notes

The board met on Wednesday, August 11.  It was brought up to remind all the members to make sure to pay your assessment.

Golf Shop News

Be sure and try to come out and see the Greenbrier High School golf team in action.  They have beaten some good teams over the last few weeks.  The team includes Oak Hills members Chris Holbert, Garin Hooper, and Jacob Haley.  Their schedule is posted in the clubhouse.

The Labor Day Scramble will be Monday September 6.  This tournament is for members only.  We want to encourage all of our members to come out for a fun day of golf and fellowship. The computer needs to have a lot of choices when it selects the teams.

Oak Hills Club Championship will be held October 2^nd & 3^rd. Qualifying will be on the 2^nd and the final round being held at 1:00 on Sunday the 3^rd.  The cost is $25 with most of the money going out as cash prizes for the different divisions and flights.  We hope to have enough participants to have a separate women’s and senior division.

Superintendent’s Corner

I hope everyone has noticed how nice our fairways are looking.  They have matured nicely with this hot and humid weather.   Our greens are starting to come back with these cool nights we are having, they have gotten hard and fast just the way we like them.  If you make a ball mark please be sure to repair it.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are needed to help repair and seal the deck upstairs.  Please let Donald or Amy know if you can help and we will set a date for this to be done.

In Sympathy

Our condolences go out to the family of Tom “doc” Osborne on the passing of his wife Jane.  Doc was a member at Oak Hills a few years back.

Our Sick

If you have seen Larry Morgan hobbling around on crutches and in a boot, he broke his ankle while trimming a tree that had fallen on #16 tee box.  Keep Becky in your prayers as he is going through this. Gene Savage had surgery last month and is recovering at home.  Jimmy Wright had shoulder surgery last week and will be back winning money in a couple of weeks.  Hazel Curtis, wife of Whit Curtis, had a mild stroke and is recovering at home.  David “Boomer” Clark had a golf cart accident while playing golf in Bristol and had shoulder surgery this past week.  Alton Elder  is in Baptist Hospital for tests.  Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this tough time.

Hole In One

Congratulations go to three of our members for feats they accomplished on the golf course.  Alton Elder had a hole in one on hole #8 on August 31, Matt Frey aced hole #13 on August 24, and Mary Jane Russell had a double on #2 August 15.  Alton won the hole-in-one pot, so don’t forget to put your money in before you play.

Donald’s Divot

The big talk around the club is the upcoming Glo-Ball Tournament.  This tournament is OPEN TO GUESTS, so please talk to your friends and make this a big event.  I would like to have an idea as soon as possible on the number of people planning to play to order the glo sticks (so we don’t run out) and balls.  We will be doing the food between the nine holes, if you can bring dessert it would be great.

The summer is fading away and our pool is closed so this means the restaurant slows down, hopefully we can keep it open all winter.  If you have any suggestions to help please let us know.  Your patronage to the restaurant is really appreciated.
